Departing from the awareness that there is a tendency for increasingly complex problems and phenomena in human life, a multidimensional approach is needed. Sciences that were originally monodisciplinary developed into interdisciplinary and even transdisciplinary. The merging of two research groups, the Design and Visual Culture Research Group with the Literacy, Culture and Media Research Group in the Faculty of Art and Design, Institut Teknologi Bandung is one of the efforts to remain relevant in this increasingly complex world.
To introduce the merging of the two research groups, a series of discussion and exhibition with the theme “TRANSPOSITION: Visual Culture Literacy Festival” will be held. The first event of the festival was a discussion on the book “Transestetika I: Seni dan Simulasi Realitas” by Prof. Dr. Yasraf Amir Piliang, M.A.
This book tries to explain the effort to understand how the democratization of taste works in the field of creation of works of art is the key to entering the myriad of interpretation which is impossible to completely penetrate with just one or two meanings. For this reason, the study of art cannot be considered complete if it does not access taste as the starting point in the relationship between works of art and humans as the ‘subjects’ of these works of art.
