ICON ARCCADE 2023: Celebrating Fluid and Ubiquitous Design
The Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) is delighted to announce the commencement of the third edition of ICON ARCCADE, an exhilarating biennial event, scheduled from October 11 to 13, 2023, on the picturesque campus of ITB in Bandung, Indonesia. The event was officially opened by the Rector of the Faculty of Art and Design, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Prof. Ir. N. R. Reini Djuhraeni Wirahadikusumah, MSCE, Ph.D.
Four plenary speakers from four different countries, Dr. Mariana Amatullo, Associate Professor, Strategic Design and Management from Parsons School of Design and Vice Provost and Academic Dean, Continuing and Professional Education, The New School, Venka Purushothaman, PhD., Deputy President and Provost, from LASALLE I University of the Arts Singapore, Prof. Dr. Yasraf A. Piliang, MA. from Institut Teknologi Bandung, and Akira Matsuda, Ph.D. Associate Professor from University of Tokyo
ICON ARCCADE 2023 is set to be a celebration of creativity, innovation, and design excellence. This year’s event is themed “Fluid and Ubiquitous,” a reflection of the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of art, architecture, and design in the modern world. Within this overarching theme, the event explores five sub-themes that are at the forefront of contemporary design thinking :
- Care: Emphasizing the importance of designing with empathy and mindfulness for both people and the environment.
- Systemic Design: Focusing on the holistic approach to design that considers interconnections and broader systems.
- Cross-Cultural Identity: Showcasing the rich tapestry of global cultures and their influence on design.
- Object as an Agency: Recognizing the capacity of objects to affect change and communicate meaning.
- Transmateriality: Investigating the use of innovative materials and technologies to create sustainable and groundbreaking designs.
ICON ARCCADE 2023 promises an array of exciting events, including exhibitions, workshops, lectures, panel discussions, and interactive installations. Renowned designers, architects, and artists from across the globe will participate, offering valuable insights and inspirations to the attendees.
