The theme of the seminar was “Heritage Textiles and Costume”. The event was held on October 24th-26th in Campus Center Building and ITB’s East Hall.
In this international seminar, experts from various textile disciplines from Indonesia and abroad were invited. Some of them who attended this event was Dr. Jana Hawley (US), Prof. Michael Hann M.Phil Ph.D (UK), E. Nicholson (UK), Mr. Nam-Sil Yoo (Korea), Dra. Ratna Panggabean, M.Sn (Indonesia), Dr. Junchi Inoguchi, Dr. Wonhoo Kim, Dr. Takuya Urakami, Dr. Kazutaka komiya (Japan), and Kim J. Saunders MA (Singapore).

This seminar discussed the multi-disciplinary aspect of natural materials that were connected with design, production and marketing. Presented results of researches in the textile field were connected with raw materials, dyeing process, production process, application, traditional and modern techniques, and the development of costume and fashion nowadays.

The Heritage Textile and Costume

“The Heritage Textiles and Costume” was a phrase used to refer to forms of textile and clothing that are considered “traditional” among people all over the world. Most of the works were hand-made,even though some of them were from industry.
There are two contexts in this discussion of traditional clothing, historical and modern context. The role of culture, commercials and promotions were aspects that were included. The continuation in the modern age such as production and marketing also became one of the big concerns of the researchers.
“This seminar is expected to motivate practitioners and researchers from all groups to produce quality in literature or textile and costume that are not bound by time. Moreover, I hope that this seminar can be a facility for exchanging knowledge and latest developments, and latest results of researches in the textile field,“ said Prof. Dr. Biranul Anas Zaman, one of the lecturers at ITB’s Faculty of Art and Design.

Other than seminar, the congress activity also included an exhibition that exhibit the works of the textile practitioners in the field of fashion from Indonesia and Korea. The exhibition was held in Lawangwangi Art and Science Estate, Jl. Dago Giri No. 99, Dago Atas, Bandung.

No Ganesha. 10 Bandung, there is photography exhibition with the theme “Different Aspect The German Art Photography Now.” This exhibition runs from 7-25 April 2009, each day starts at 09.00-16.00 WIB, except Sunday and public holidays. The opening of the exhibition will be held on 6 April 2009 at 19.00 WIB.

This exhibition will display works of art photography 90 years-an origin with the German curator Ute Eskildsen is a continuation of a series of exhibitions titled “Various Aspects The German Art Photography Now” from the Instituts fur Auslandsbeziehungen e.V. Theme of “real-space picture space” exhibit three different methods of work but with the same content that is public space.

Besides the exhibition, there is also workshops, presentations and discussions. Workshop on 7-9 April 2009, participants are limited, with the theme “Photography Chat News” with the leader Andreas Rost, photographers from Berlin.

While the presentation and discussion was held 10 April 2009, at 14.00-16.00, with the speaker Andreas Rost (Berlin) and Deden Hendan Durachman (FSRD ITB), the moderator: Bambang Subarnas (FSRD ITB).
